Employee Spotlight: Meet Gui Sampaio
Welcome to Hyosung’s employee spotlight! Our May spotlight is on Gui Sampaio, AR/Billing Manager. Gui has over 3 years of experience in Accounting, and we are glad he joined the Hyosung family. “Gui is such a joy to work with. Get to know Gui more below!
Q: Can you tell us a little more about your background and how you joined the company in 2020?
A: Born and raised in Sao Paulo, Brazil, I majored in Finance and subsequently completed my Masters in Accounting. I have been in an Accounting/Finance role throughout my career. Prior to joining Hyosung, I worked as an Accounting Supervisor at American Airlines for 3 years.
Q: What was your first impression of Hyosung?
A: I was blown away by the size of operations but how small the teams were. It takes real team effort across all departments to ensure a smooth operation – and I love that!
Q: Can you tell us about your role and summarize your day-to-day responsibilities?
A: I am responsible for our Billing operations and Accounts Receivable – in short, I am responsible for ensuring customers are billed promptly/correctly and that we are collecting from said customers in a timely manner.
Q: Are there any important skills or attributes that are important for someone that wants to pursue a career in Finance and Accounting?
A: Great attention to detail, understanding the importance of deadlines, and a love for Excel spreadsheets. Most people believe that a role in Finance and Accounting revolves solely on number crunching, but they would be surprised to know that there is more to it, especially here at Hyosung. We work very closely with Sales, Sales Support, Customer Care, and Shipping to ensure everyone is on the same page and items are billed correctly and collected in a timely manner. Every day is a new challenge, which keeps things exciting!
Q: What inspires you every day?
A: My team members! Everyone is so positive and determined. We all work hard, and we try to enjoy ourselves as much as possible while completing our daily tasks.
Q: In 5 years what do you want to achieve or where do you see you yourself? This can be a personal goal or a career goal.
A: I would like to complete my CPA certification, and continue to do my best every single day.
Q: What do you like to do outside of work?
A: I love spending time with family, particularly my niece and nephew. If I am not with family, I enjoy staying active by playing soccer and working out.
Q: Do you have favorite memory or standout accomplishment you want to talk about?
A: I would like to share the spotlight with my team! One of my favorite memories was actually meeting the Finance and Accounting team via a zoom call. It was my first time working remotely due to the Pandemic, and everyone welcomed me with open-arms. I am a firm believer that it takes a real team effort to accomplish your goals, and I am very thankful for every single one of them. They make my job much easier!
